Seahog participants raise RM86,910 in charity auction

KUCHING: The participants of the 2nd South East Asia Harley Owners Group (Seahog) Rally 2012 raised RM86,910 in a charity auction at the civic centre here Friday.

The funds would be distributed to charitable bodies in the state, which would be determined later. The auction was held in conjunction with the nine-day rally which started from Nov 15. Among the items auctioned were Harley-Davidson 110th anniversary t-shirts, leather jackets, wooden plaque as well as the much anticipated Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic.

The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic is a special edition to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Harley-Davidson. There are only 3,000 units of it throughout the world.

The one brought to Malaysia by Naza Group of Companies with the serial number 886, is the only one in the country. The auction price of the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic was from RM190,000.

Zulkifli Khalid, a businessman from Muar, Johor also bid for the special edition bike and paid RM230,000 for it. A fan of Harley-Davidson since 2009, this was the seventh Harley-Davidson bikes Zulkifli owned.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who was the invited guest, bid for a Harley-Davidson 110th anniversary t-shirt and offered RM1,000. Also present was Naza Group of Companies chief operating officer Datuk SM Zulkifli SM Amin. The 265 bikers participating in the rally were from United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, China, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

A total of 126 owners of Harley-Davidson will ride nearly 2,500km around the state, from Kuching to Sibu, Miri, Brunei, Bintulu and back to the capital city.

KTS Group and Asia Tourism jointly hosted the dinner.
